Its almost tradition now at Gino’s Deli, being ranked one of the best restaurants attached to a gas station or convenience store, having been ranked constantly anytime a list or an award comes out in the news 1, 2. This year is no different. MySanAntonio.com released an article written by Polly Anna Rocha on the latest list of the best restaurants attached to a gas station in San Antonio. Known for its famous Philly Cheese Steaks, Deli Sandwiches, and Burgers, Gino’s Deli once again raced up the rankings as one of the best restaurant in the category.
Being constantly named the Best Philly Cheese Steak in San Antonio, Best Deli in San Antonio and Best Sandwiches in San Antonio by dozens upon dozens of publications, reviews and awards, Gino’s Deli has carved a name for itself in San Antonio food scene.
You may have visited Gino’s Deli and noticed it is inside a convenience store hence the name Gino’s Deli Stop N Buy. You may also have noticed that it does not have gas. Not many know this but for the first 15 years of its life Gino’s Deli was attached to a Texaco station. And had been since the building was built in the early 80s. The gas was removed 5 years ago to make more room for the Deli patrons.
Texas has a long history of restaurants attached to gas stations. While things may have changed now you can still find many gas stations with restaurants attached. Go to any small town in Texas and you are likely to see one still.

Gas stations serve many purposes. Sometimes, you pop inside of one for a Gatorade and some beef jerky, and other times, it’s simply just to refill your car’s tank. But there are some gas stations that provide something more than just a quick snack or fuel.
I can already hear the groans as I write out the words “gas station restaurants,” but please bear with me. Sometimes, that gas station hot food hits, especially when an actual restaurant is turning it out.
If you’re not convinced, consider the following seven restaurants that just so happen to be embedded inside gas stations and convenience stores.
Gino’s Deli @ Stop & Buy
One of the best Philly cheesesteaks in San Antonio is from the lauded Gino’s Deli. You’ll find the food stand in a Stop & Buy on Huebner, where it serves up deli sandwiches, with fillings like pastrami and chicken salad. Gino’s also serves craft burgers, salads, and a handful of specialty sandwiches.
